Day 19

Today, Kim was pretty happy to show us her leg.  She got her staples out!  Now it's just itchy!  She also stood on it today; not for long, but she's way ahead of schedule.  She first got told she wouldn't be able to put pressure on it til January 12th, and now it's still December.  That's almost 2 weeks ahead.  Great news!  Little sore, but more and more every day. Her physio therapist is very pleased with her progression.

Eating habits are getting better and better too.  Under pressure, from the family, but whatever works!!  Hence, she got her promised french fries tonight in the cafeteria.

Other than that, there is no other news.

Continue to keep Kim in your thoughts and prayers.  Happy New Year from Kim.

Vanessa, thanks so much for your post.  It brought tears to her eyes.  Kim would really like to meet sometime.

Day 18

Today, was quite a busy day for Kim.  First, she went for an ultrasound on her legs.  We found out she has blood clots in her right leg (the good one).  She also had 2 ECG's done, because her heart rate was quite high for the last couple days.  They will continue to monitor that.  Then, this afternoon, they took her downstairs for a CT Scan, on her chest to check if there were blood clots near her heart or lungs.  But once she was down there, the doctor decided against the CT Scan, because she already had 5 of them, and radiation is not good for a young lady.  Since, she has clots in her leg, they have to put her on Warfarin (a blood thinner), and since she is already on that, it will help for the clots in her chest to if any, so no need for the Ct Scan.

Physio was held off today, because she went through a fair bit of movement today, which really tuckered her out and she needed her rest.

Kim was in her glory again, because yesterday Alicia made her spaghetti, and today mom made her macaroni salad, so no hospital food!!!  Yuck, she says!  Tomorrow, she got promised french fries if she obeys the rules!

She will probably be here till the beginning of next week at least, because she does have another CT Scan on her chest scheduled for Monday.

Please continue to remember Kim and pray for her healing!

Day 17

For I will restore health unto you, and I will heal you of your wounds.   Jeremiah 30:17

Once again, as promised to Kim, she had to do physio.  The doctor was really pleased with how her foot is coming along (thanks to wearing that wonderful boot that she grunts at every time she has to wear it!)  She was up in her wheelchair today for about 1 1/2 hours, touring through the hospital, and eating popsicles.  She quite enjoyed the change of scenery!  Little painful after that, and quite content about going back to her bed.

The results also came back from her CT Scan that she had done yesterday. It showed she had a tear in her artery in her neck, but her blood clot there stopped it from internal bleeding.  It is dissolving on its own now.

She also went for testing to see how badly the accident affected her brain.  She had 30 different tasks to perform, from answering questions to drawing and identifying things, and she did well on it. (26/30)

Today, the coordinator came in to tell us again that there still was no bed available in Grimsby, so hopefully tomorrow.

Day 16

Back to the blog!
Yesterday, was just a day of rest for Kim; no  new changes.  Mel, her cousin came and sat with her for a few hours in the afternoon, while we went to the Post family get-together for Christmas.  Thanks so much, Mel!  It was nice to get out for a bit.  Kim's boss and one of her co-workers came in to visit her, and it became quite an emotional afternoon, from what I hear.  She came in bearing a big box of cards and gifts from her little kiddies and co-workers from her daycare.  So many cute cards were made for her by the different classes and their teachers.

Today, when we arrived she had 4 more of her co-workers visit her.  She enjoyed their company too, till the therapists came for some torture!  They put her in a wheelchair, which was verrry painful for her.  But she got to go for a visit to the sun room....no sooner was she there, though, that a nurse came to her and told her a porter was there to take her for another CT Scan, for her clots in her neck (no results as of yet).  This really tired her out so she had a quiet afternoon and slept for a good part of it.  She really doesn't look forward to therapy tomorrow!

Her healing process is coming along well, with no major hurldles!  So much to be thankful for.  She is eating next to nothing as of yet, but hopefully that will come soon too.  Please continue to pray  for patience, strength, and healing for Kim.

No news yet about being transferred to Grimsby!  We will keep you updated on that!

Day 14

Praise God from whom all blessings flow

Yesterday morning, when we came in to see Kim for the day,  she told us she got her staples (47 of them) out of her stomach.   But we couldn't believe her, until she showed us!  It's amazing what these drugs she's on, does to her.  She has some amazing and quite comical stories (through her dreams) to tell us every morning, but they all relate somehow to her injuries or her daily happenings in the hospital.  So many a times, we do have question her or the nurses.

As for her healing, it's amazing how far she has come since her accident.  Her insides and organs seem to all be healed by now.  She just can't move a lot yet, because of her fractures to her ribs, pelvic and vertebraes, but some are surprised she can move as she does.  She can't get out of bed, because she cannot put any weight on her leg till about the 12th of January, we are told, so it's flat on her back till then!

Her appetite is finally coming back a bit, but she hates hospital food, so I still can't get away with cooking for her!  Even for as little as she eats right now, but I don't want to refuse her at this time. Today, her diet consisted of about 5 bites of ham and 4 mouthfuls of applesauce, but that's more than she's eaten in the last 2 weeks!

Please continue to pray for Kim for strength, patience and healing.

Tamara,   just thought I'd let you know, Kim was very touched by your comment....it brought tears to her eyes!  she thought that was so sweet of Colten!

Day12

No news is good news!  Today, when we got there, Kim showed a little discomfort, but that soon changed when her friend Meghan showed up!  That put a smile on her face pretty quick!  For the rest, there is not much to tell you.  As of now, she is still in the General.

Please continue to remember Kim and us in your prayers.

Have a blessed Christmas!

Day 11

"In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." Proverbs 16:9

Today, was not a great day for Kim.  It seems she has a good day, where she can be awake most of the day, when we are there, but the next day she doesn't.  She had a lot of discomfort today, in her abdomen, enough that she couldn't even do her physio. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.

Today, we were informed, that she could be transferred to West Lincoln Hospital soon.  It could be tomorrow, or it could be in a few days.  It all depends on when a bed is available for her.  That will make things a whole lot easier for us,  knowing we can slip out from time to time too, as well as making it easier for Alicia with her little ones, even as good as they are!  We will keep you informed, but for those who do plan on visiting in the next few days, it might be wise to find out first.  When we first questioned why Kim is being moved to Grimsby already, it was just informed to us, that they normally transport patients, just for the convenience to the family.  She still needs the same medical help, but they feel as long as a patient is not under the care with all the internal injuries any longer, her hospital can look after her the same way.  She will still be transported by OPT to the General to see her specialists if necessary, and when needed.

Once again, we ask you to keep us all in your prayers, and wish Kim a speedy recovery for her life to become "normal" again.

Day 10 (Kim's Birthday)

"In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." Proverbs 16:9

Happy Birthday Kim !!!

Today was Kim's 23rd birthday, so not the way she would have planned on spending her birthday; but we are so grateful that she was able to be here with us. Kim started her day off by going down for a CT Scan; they wanted to make sure that everything was working fine with her kidney, and the results came back that everything was good. All Kim could talk about when she got back was how much pain she was in. This was due to the fact that she was put in a transporting bed to go down stairs and have her CT Scan, and than when she got back up placed back into her normal bed. A lot of moving around for someone who has as many broken bones as she does.

We soon were able to distract her mind by mentioning that we had some birthday gifts for her to open, who could turn that down! Kim was also able to read all her cards that she had received through out her duration at the hospital so far as well. She was so filled with joy to know about the amount of people who cared for her out there. Today was also a very emotional day for Kim; for she was able to get on to the computer for the first time. We showed Kim her blog that was set up for her, and read of all the types of things that she has been through since her duration in the hospital, as well as read all the comments that people have posted for her. As well she was able to go onto her facebook account and see what all her family and friends have been writing to her. Let's just say that Kim was so very touched by what she had read from all.

Kim was also able to have some visitors for a good part of the day as well; in which I know she so enjoyed. It was nice to see a smile on her face when someone new walked through the door to see her. Kim was moved out of the "step down" unit as well. She is still located on the 6th floor, only now she is in a room with only 1 other lady. She is to the point where she does not need a nurse looking over her all the time, if she needs something she can call. When we left Kim was quiet tired; so had no problem seeing us go, she did great for not having a nap all day.

In all this we see how our Heavenly Father has brought us so far.  Each day again, we are blessed with many wonderful things, and each day again we are reminded of His almighty, awesome power.  He is a gracious God who gives to those in need

Happy Birthday Kim!!!!

Day 9

Today was a real good day.  We can surely see Kim on the mend now.  This morning when we came, she had a lot of discomfort and pain.  The doctors again changed her pain meds for her, and almost immediately we noticed a change!  She was much more comfortable and even her physio wasn't too painful for her.  She was sitting today for the first time, in a huge "lazyboy" chair for about 1 1/2 hours, but was relieved to lie flat again.  This afternoon, she went for another ultrasound on her legs, watching for clots, but all came back negative.  Great news.

After that, she had a good afternoon, back to being her usual self.  No pain, and still her sense of humor is there.  Her oxygen was also taken off this afternoon.  All she has now, is an intervenous hookup.
The doctors even had to force her to take her pain meds this afternoon, otherwise she would regret it later.
Tonight, just before we left, her neurologist came to check on her balance and coordination, due to her strokes.  Her left arm was off slightly, but the doctor figures that will all come back in due time.

Tomorrow, is Kim's birthday, and all she wishes is to come home. As much as she loves her company, we do have to remember, to keep it to a minimum for her best interests.

It's been just over a week now, and look at her improvement.  How blessed we are!  Please continue to pray for her strength and healing.

Day 8

"For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God."  Ps 86:10

Today, Kim was moved from the ICU to the "Step Down" unit.  This is still part of the trauma unit, but since she does not need a nurse by her bedside 24/7, she was brought here.  Still here, she has a nurse's station in her room with a nurse (or 2) watching over her.  She now shares a room with 2 others.
Visiting  is still very limited for her, with visiting hours from 11-8, and even more stricter than in ICU.  Today, was a very tiring day for her, because of the changeover and the physio she had, so she slept for the majority of her day.  She is still in a considerable amount of pain, and when we came this morning, she told us she was eating solids now, but has no appetite at all.

All Kim wants to do right now is sleep, so when we say our goodbyes for the night, she has no problem seeing us go.

Please continue to uphold us in your prayers.  We are overwhelmed by the number of prayers that have gone up, and pray that you will continue to remember us daily.

Day 7

"I cry to God and the LORD saves me.  Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress and he hears my voice." Psalm 55: 16-17

Another good day for Kim.  No big changes; she is happy, and loves to talk -- sometimes more than she should!

Today, we got told Kim has made huge progress, and may move on out of ICU in just a few days.  She still has a few intervenous lines hooked up, and her oxygen line yet, but her pain meds are considerably lower.  She complains quite often her abdomen and leg is sore, but they are trying to maintain her pain as much as possible with as little as necessary medication.

Her visitors are very limited at this time because she needs her rest more than anything at this point, and sleeps whenever she wishes, whether we are there are not!

Kim still has a long road to recovery, so please continue to pray for Kim's healing.

Day 6

"In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." Proverbs 16:9

God is good!  This morning when we came to see Kim, the nurses were at the door, waiting to tell us Kim's good news!  Her breathing tubes were taken out and she was breathing on her own, with the help of a little oxygen.  She could finally talk, something that seemed forever to us. Again, much to be thankful for. Although very tired and groggy, she had lots to tell us.  She was on a beach in Hawaii, suntanning!  How her mind works under the drugs and medication.  We were also informed that her lungs seemed to be clearing well, from the pneumonia.

The doctors are very pleased with her progress.  She tires fast and needs lots of rest,  cutting our visits very short with her, only for about 10 minutes every 2 hours.  We love to be with her much more, but do realize the importance of rest for her healing.  Although, we have seen a lot of progress in the last few days, she still has a long way to go.

Please continue to pray for continued healing, patience and strength for Kim.

Day 5

This morning Kim had a TEE- Transesophagel Echo. This was to check if there was any blood clots in her heart; to see if it is functioning properly and also to see if there were any tears in her arteries. This came out positive and all looked well. They started to do therapy on Kim's chest as well; which seemed to really tire her out, so our visits with her were limited. Again today she was quite responsive, showing her emotions well. A blessing to us that she is getting better. We were told that she may get her breathing tube out tomorrow, good for her because she shows a lot of discomfort with it. I am sure it would be with two tubes going down your throat.! Overnight they plan to give her two more blood transfusion (to bring it to a total of 7) to bring her hemoglobin up. Around 9:00 we went in to say our good nights wishing Kim a peaceful and restful sleep. Again we thank the Lord for His providential care.

First Update

Kim was in a car accident on Monday, December 13th in between 5:00- 5:15pm., in which she sustained life threatening injuries. She was taken to the Hamilton General. It was a long wait from there before we found out any news on Kim. The first we heard was about broken bones. We were told that Kim had a left broken leg, ankle, pelvis, right broken forearm and wrist. Internally, she has a lacerated spleen, badly bruised lungs, cuts to her right kidney and also her liver. She was heavily sedated for the night to ease the pain. The night ended with her going in for CT Scan

Tuesday December 14th (Day 2)

We came into the hospital next morning to find out the results to that nights CT Scan, we found out that the left kidney had a blood clot in the main vessel which was stopping her blood flow. We were told that the kidney had lost all function. We were also told that she has a lower vertabrea break. We found out that she definitely had broken ribs, which we were kind of questioning due to all the damage internally.
After that point Kim was sent down to have another CT Scan done. The results to that came back later that day only to find out that she could possibly have a whole in her diaphram, from here they decided that they we going to take her in for surgery and try and fix this. The doctor came in to talk to us and stated that while they had her in surgery for this that they were going to take a look her bowels for they didn’t look normal from the CT Scan. We then again waited for surgery to be over and got back some very positive results. They did not find a whole in her diaphram and everything seemed to be working fine with her bowels. While they were in for this surgery they decided just to take a look around at all her organs, and never found anything else wrong. Kim in the meantime had also caught phenmonia. Kim was than heavily sedated again for the night to help her out with all the pain, and also due to being sent down for another CT Scan.

Wednesday December 15th (Day 3)

So the next morning we were at home and the doctors called to let us know that from that night’s CT Scan they found that Kim had 2 blood clots on her main vessel that leads to the back of the brain which had caused her to have 2 mini strokes, which could affect her balance and coordination. The doctor explained to us that if you were to have a stroke this is one of the best areas of the brain for it to happen. Kim is on medication now to keep the blood clots from growing, since blood thinners is not an option at this time. For now they are just watching very closely at the blood clots to make sure they don’t move anywhere.
After some of the sedation wore off, we went into see Kim and she was very responsive to us. We held her hand and talked to her, asked Kim to squeeze are hand if she could hear us, and she did. Told here who was in the room with her and asked her to open her eyes, which she also did. It was just a blessing to see this, it brought tears to our eyes. The rest of the day was just very peaceful for her. As we were getting to leave Kim was just going in for surgery for her broken arm and leg.

Thursday December 16th (Day 4)

We called the hospital right away in the morning to find out Kim’s surgery went very well. Both her arm and leg were able to get fixed all at once. Her blood pressure and heart rates were also stable as well, which is just great news. Kim has had a very relaxing day today with lots of responsive moments. Kim has been told that she has been in an accident at this point and is responding to yes/no questions that we are asking her. She does this by the nodding of her head. Kim is also communicating to us where her pain is the same way. We thank the Lord that He has spared her life and that He continues to hold her in His care.
We are going to be starting a blog as soon as we can to keep people updated on Kim's status. So keep posted for her up coming information.......
